Basile VAN HAVRE

Biography

Basile van Havre is an expert in biodiversity and multilateral negotiations. He is senior advisor at IDDRI, a research Associate at UQO, a member of Ouranos Scientific advisory Committee and of the North American Biodiversity and Climate Change Assessment Guidance Committee.

He spent over 32-year in the environmental field in the Canadian Federal Government and the last 20 years with the Canadian Wildlife Service, leading policy partnership and international affairs.

From 2018 to 2022, he led the negotiation of the Convention on Biodiversity Global Biodiversity Framework.

Prior to that he managed polar bears for Canada and co-led migratory bird management in North America. He led Canada delegations in several negotiations (IUCN, CITES, etc.).

Mr. van Havre holds a bachelor's degree in engineering and an MBA from Laval University (Canada). He received the first Global Excellence Award from the Biodiversity Law and Governance Society and the Public service award of excellence for his leadership in the development of the KMGBF and the 2023 Canadian Public Service Excellence Award.
