Why attend

This session will introduce participants to the newly agreed CBD mechanism for planning, monitoring, reporting and review, in particular the global review, and highlight opportunities for IUCN members and other stakeholders to engage with it.

Session Description

In the CBD Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), a mechanism was agreed to improve transparency and accountability of Parties’ progress in halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030. The operational arrangements for the ‘Global Review’ were adopted at COP16. A well-functioning Global Review will be key to collectively assess progress, identify gaps and adopt recommendations to strengthen implementation. The ‘Global Review’ will also highlight contributions from non-state actors and other multilateral processes. The ‘Global Review’ is a new and evolving mechanism and the coming months and years offer a crucial opportunity to strengthen the process and its outcomes, and ensure broad engagement. The session will provide an overview of the ‘Global Review’, explain why it matters for the implementation of the GBF, explore how it can be shaped to deliver maximum impact, and open a discussion on how IUCN members can connect their work to this mechanism.
