Why attend

Discover the latest insights on the conservation of natural World Heritage sites, examining threats and management effectiveness over the past decade. IUCN World Heritage Outlook 4 presents how well these iconic sites are preserving their natural values and is a powerful gauge of global nature conservation efforts.

Session Description

The IUCN World Heritage Outlook is the leading global assessment of natural World Heritage sites, tracking their conservation status, trends, analysing drivers of change and identifying the status of protection and management over the past decade. Since its launch in 2014, it has provided critical insights into the challenges and successes of protecting these iconic places. With only half of natural World Heritage sites regularly monitored through the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, the IUCN Outlook offers an invaluable knowledge tool. This session will present the key findings from IUCN Outlook 4, revealing global and regional trends for the first time. It will highlight major threats, progress and opportunities for action, building on previous cycles, strengthening engagements with Indigenous Peoples and representation of cultural heritage. The session will also serve as a platform to discuss follow-up actions, foster collaboration and drive conservation efforts at site, regional and global levels.
