Why attend
Fungi, the invisible pillars of ecosystems, remain little-known and underrepresented in conservation strategies. Join us to explore why and how we can better protect them, in line with Motion 091. This dynamic panel will showcase initiatives from Québec (Canada) and beyond, for a truly integrated approach to biodiversity conservation.
Session Description
Fungi remain largely understudied and underrepresented in conservation strategies worldwide, despite their essential role in ecosystems. While only 0.8% of known fungal diversity currently included on the IUCN Red List, this knowledge gap hinders truly integrated biodiversity conservation. This interactive panel will share insights and best practices to accelerate fungal conservation. Québec (Canada) will serve as an anchor point: Jonathan Cazabonne (Mycosphaera) and Marie-Audrey Nadeau Fortin (Nature Québec) will kick off the discussion with a local overview, followed by a look at the opportunities to position the province as a leader in this field. Professor Gregory Mueller will then enrich the discussion with bold initiatives implemented elsewhere, whether through citizen science, genomics, or innovative regulatory frameworks. A must-attend session to inspire scientists, managers, policymakers, and conservation practitioners!Organised by
