SENYACEN RAMIREZ

Biography

Senyacen Ramírez is a Honduran biologist from the National Autonomous University of Honduras. She served as Director of the Marine Aquarium at Tela Marine, where she led coral reef conservation initiatives within the Tela Bay Marine Wildlife Refuge. Her expertise includes coordinating marine aquarium operations, managing marine species in captivity, and delivering environmental education to diverse audiences

Her work has encompassed biological monitoring of reef systems and contributing to critical assessments of reef health. She is a certified PADI Rescue Diver and trained in AGRRA methodology, specializing in benthic surveys and coral bleaching monitoring, providing essential field data for reef health evaluations.

Senyacen has collaborated with Tela Coral on research into coral larval recruitment and with Families in Nature on citizen science projects that engage communities in conservation through hands-on learning. She has presented as a plenary speaker at Reef Futures, is a member of the Association of Biologists of Honduras, member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), and participates in the post-storm reef response brigade for the Mesoamerican Reef (SAM) region.

Driven by a strong commitment to marine conservation, her mission is to bridge the gap between scientific research, public education, and practical action to safeguard Honduras’ coral reefs for future generations
