Sander VAN ANDEL

Biography

Sander van Andel is Senior Expert Nature Conservation at the IUCN National Committee of the Netherlands. Sander has an academic background in ecology and natural resource management.

Sander has led international programmes in more than 16 countries in Africa, South America and Asia to safeguard ecosystems and the services they provide. In these countries, he has worked with a wide range of civil society organisations to find solutions that balance ecological, economic and social interests with the interests of governments, the private sector and local communities.

Sander has a strong interest in how locally led conservation can lead to improve the population status of endangered species while taking into account the nexus between biodiversity, water, food and health through a landscape approach.
