Osgur MCDERMOTT LONG

Biography

I am Data Lead at the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), where I guide the use and provision of global biodiversity data to support evidence-based decisions for people and the planet. I oversee the curation, analysis, and dissemination of the Centre’s biodiversity data assets, strengthening infrastructure while ensuring open, trusted access for global stakeholders. A core part of my work involves driving innovation through AI, modernising data pipelines, and delivering meaningful biodiversity insights through digital transformation. I also shape UNEP-WCMC’s data strategy, build partnerships, secure sustainable funding, and mentor a dynamic team of data professionals.
