Biography

Dr. Karin Moejes is a Senior Scientist at CORDIO East Africa, where she leads the Coral Reef Programme. She serves as the Western Indian Ocean Regional Coordinator for the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN), currently coordinating the region’s contribution to the Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2025 and leading the first Western Indian Ocean Coral Reef Status Report since 2017, which aims to integrate ecological and social dimensions for a more holistic picture of coral reef health.

Working with IUCN and the RLE Partnership, she is contributing to the coordination of the global IUCN Red List of Ecosystems (RLE) assessment for coral reefs, with a focus on building capacity and empowering regions to assess coral reef status through the RLE framework.
