Christian PLOWMAN

Biography

Christian Plowman has spent almost three decades working at the front line of criminal justice, investigations and intelligence. After a 16-year career at Scotland Yard as a detective specialising in covert law enforcement and intelligence gathering, Christian has spent a decade at the forefront of the fight against the transnational illegal wildlife trade. With his expertise focussed on Africa-Asia trafficking, Christian – a fluent French speaker – has enjoyed extensive spells with INTERPOL as an intelligence officer as well as with ZSL and WCS as a counter-wildlife trafficking coordinator. A long-standing member of the UK government DEFRA Illegal Wildlife Trade Advisory Group, Christian takes pride in advocating for ethical and transparent investigative and intelligence gathering methodologies to combat cross-border trafficking. Christian is a regular guest speaker at academic institutions, a qualified and experienced proponent of training to a multitude of law enforcement agencies and has co-authored numerous academic papers. Having specialised in targeting organised criminal networks for many years, he now oversees the extensive and ground-breaking wildlife cybercrime program for IFAW.
