Cedrick Fogwan is a Cameroonian marine biologist whose passion lies in building bridges between science, policy, and local knowledge to foster inclusive, long-term conservation outcomes that benefit both biodiversity and coastal communities.. He holds two master’s degrees in aquatic resources management and oceanography, and has strengthened his expertise through specialized training in Rwanda, Kenya, and South Africa. As a certified Open Water diver, he also conducts research in subaquatic environments.
As Program Coordinator at the African Marine Conservation Organisation (AMCO), Cedrick contributes to numerous innovations, including the SIREN app, which engages fishers in participatory marine data collection. His research on whales and dolphins integrates visual surveys, citizen science, acoustics, and genetics. He has also played a key role in securing legal protection for four marine mammal species and in producing the first seafloor mapping of Cameroon.
A recipient of several international awards and an active member of networks such as the IUCN and the Consortium for the Conservation of the Atlantic Humpback Dolphin, Cedrick—who also has a special fondness for the goliath frog—embodies a new generation of African scientists: committed, innovative, and deeply rooted in community realities.
