Carla Gavilanes Garzón is a Geographical and Environmental Engineer with a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, specializing in Socio-Environmental Studies from FLACSO-Ecuador, and postgraduate diplomas in Leadership and Public Management for Women and in Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.
She has over twenty years of experience in climate change adaptation, watershed management, ecosystem-based adaptation, landscape restoration, and climate governance, with a strong focus on socio-environmental management and territorial resilience. She currently serves as the National Coordinator for Ecuador of the program “Scaling up Ecosystem-based Adaptation Measures in Latin America (EbA LAC)”, implemented by a consortium of GIZ, IUCN, and CATIE, and financed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI).
Throughout her career, she has worked with public institutions, international organizations, and community-based groups, and has taught at several universities. Her work promotes the integration of climate adaptation into public policies, emphasizing gender equality, sustainability, and social participation. She is the author and co-author of several publications on watershed management, climate change adaptation, gender, and environment.
