Arturo ARREOLA MUÑOZ

Biography

Mexican geographer, graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Master of Science from the Autonomous University of Chapingo and PhD in Ecology and Sustainable Development from El Colegio de la Frontera Sur. He has 35 years of experience in land use planning processes, participatory planning, sustainability construction, governance and socio-environmental management with the native and peasant peoples of Mesoamerica.

He has been a consultant for The Nature Conservancy, GEF, UNDP, European Union, GIZ, WWF, CONABIO, CONANP, Institute of Geography of the UNAM, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, FAO and IUCN. He was Subdelegate of the Environment at SEMARNAP in Chiapas and Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development in Mesoamerica A.C. (IDESMAC), professor by subject in the postgraduate program of the Faculty of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Chiapas and full-time in the postgraduate program of the Autonomous University of Chapingo. He has more than 80 scientific and dissemination publications. He is currently the Focal Point for Mesoamerica of the GEF CSO Network, a member of the Scientific Committee of the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve, of the Advisory Council on Climate Change in Chiapas, of the IUCN Commission for Political and Social Economy and editor of the journal Diversidad.
