Why attend
Learn how genomic tools enhance early disease detection in ex-situ conservation. This session explores a One Health approach that integrates wildlife, pathogens, and vectors, showcasing scalable methods for ecological disease surveillance in conservation breeding programs.
Session Description
Ex-situ conservation efforts faces major challenges from disease outbreaks. This highlights the need for a One Health approach that integrates wildlife, vector, and pathogen dynamics. Using long-read sequencing and metabarcoding, we assessed mosquito species, vertebrate blood meals , and viral pathogens from bulk samples caught on the grounds of an endangered species conservation breeding centre in the UAE. Our approach points to a scalable method towards understanding host–pathogen–vector interactions, supporting early detection and ecological disease surveillance both for captive breeding programs, and society at-large.Organised by
