Session with interpretation
Why attend
Learn how to monitor land health in agricultural landscapes using functional biodiversity as a key indicator. This interactive session introduces IUCN’s Land Health Monitoring Framework (LHMF) and offers hands-on experience in applying it across multiple scales—from soil to landscape—to strengthen ecosystem resilience and guide sustainable land management practices.
Session Description
This session introduces participants to the Land Health Monitoring Framework (LHMF), which uses functional biodiversity indicators—above-ground biodiversity, below-ground biodiversity, and landscape elements—to assess the state of land health. Participants will learn how this framework supports sustainable agriculture by providing practical tools for monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem services at multiple scales. The session will feature interactive group exercises, where participants will work in groups representing different monitoring scales: Soil/Field, Farm, Landscape, or National/Regional. Using real-world case studies, participants will identify key indicators and design monitoring strategies for their assigned scale. This format allows for collaborative learning and cross-scale thinking, equipping participants with practical skills they can apply in their projects and contexts.
