Why attend

The IUCN is revising the Green List Standard for Protected and Conserved Areas. This session invites participants to explore the draft, learn about proposed changes, and share feedback. Join the discussion on how the revised Standard can strengthen site management, governance, and conservation effectiveness for people and nature.

Session Description

The IUCN Green List Standard for Protected and Conserved Areas is being revised to ensure it continues to reflect and support effective, equitable management. Since its launch in 2016, more than 100 sites worldwide have achieved Green List status. Guided by feedback from site managers, conservation practitioners, and equity experts, the Green List Standard Committee has developed a new draft now open for consultation, inviting diverse perspectives to help refine and strengthen the Standard for global use. In this interactive session, participants will explore how the updated Standard strengthens governance, equity, and conservation effectiveness, while discussing challenges and opportunities across terrestrial, freshwater, and marine contexts — all with a focus on remaining practical and globally relevant. Join us to learn, discuss and contribute directly to shaping Green List Standard V2.0 — a global benchmark for protected and conserved areas that deliver lasting benefits for people and nature.
