Why attend
Fire has reached global crisis levels and continues to change rapidly. We need the best of human ingenuity–the deep knowledge of place-based communities and the dynamism of cutting-edge tech–to solve this. This session will engage innovators blending diverse knowledge to reimagine how we live with fire in the Americas.
Session Description
Fire dynamics in the Americas, and around the world, are fundamentally changing. While fire is a natural process and has been used sustainably for millennia by Indigenous peoples, destructive fires are now a rapidly escalating threat to biodiversity, climate, and human communities. Yet resilience is possible when diverse knowledge systems are braided together. Conservation X Labs’ Fire Grand Challenge mobilizes innovative teams where place-based fire practitioners partner with technology collaborators to co-design and implement solutions. This session highlights such blended approaches—from drones to fungi to spatial decision tools informed by traditional fire practices—and explores how innovators across North and South America are reimagining our relationship with fire. Participants will discover how combining place-based knowledge with FireTech can spark new pathways for living and thriving with fire in a rapidly changing world.Organised by
