Juliana CORTES RINCON

Biography

Juliana is an ecologist with a master's degree in Biodiversity. She focuses on the conservation of Neotropical primates, area-based conservation, biodiversity assessment and monitoring, land conservation, and forest management. She has experience in geographic information systems (GIS), ecology, management effectiveness, biodiversity conservation project formulation and management, and database record systematization. She currently leads the research line on protected and conserved areas at the Humboldt Institute.

Notable achievements include the conceptualization of protected and conserved areas in Colombia, the identification and strengthening of actions in OMEC, protected areas, and ICCAs, participation in the OMEC-COL facilitation group, the creation of Municipal Systems of Protected Areas (SIMAP), participation in the design and development of the National Primate Conservation Program in Colombia, and a representative analysis of terrestrial ecosystems within KBAs, World Heritage Sites, and Protected Areas for the Red List of Terrestrial Ecosystems Application and Integration in Colombia. In 2021, Colombia's Red List of Terrestrial Ecosystems won the 2021 Camila Botero Restrepo Environment and Sustainable Development Award from the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation.
