Why attend

Explore Indonesia’s district and IPLC leadership in uniting food security, livelihoods, and biodiversity, with lessons relevant across Southeast Asia to advance the Global Biodiversity Framework through inclusive governance and community empowerment.

Session Description

This session explores how districts, communities, and Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in Indonesia are building resilient landscapes that link sustainable livelihoods with ecosystem protection. Grounded in IUCN Motion 137 on biodiversity finance and human rights, it highlights inclusive governance models that empower local custodians. The session aligns with the Kunming-Montreal GBF, especially the 30% land/sea protection target and equitable benefit-sharing, showing how global goals connect to local well-being. Real examples—like farmland restoration alongside biodiversity recovery—illustrate how inclusivity and finance innovation can scale climate-smart, biodiversity-positive landscapes. Target audience: local leaders, IPLCs, policymakers, civil society, finance, partners, and youth.
