Session Description
This conversation will explore the role of wild harvesting — from game meat to wild fruits and nuts — in addressing today’s pressing challenges of food security, sovereignty, and climate resilience. The discussion will examine how wild harvests contribute to nutrition, cultural identity, and livelihoods, while also asking hard questions about sustainability, scalability, and policy. We want to draw on your expertise to reflect on the place of wild harvesting within modern food systems: its potential to diversify diets and strengthen resilience, its economic and ecological trade-offs, and the frameworks needed to ensure benefits reach Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. Ultimately, the session seeks to open a forward-looking dialogue on how conservation, policy, and economics can position wild harvesting as part of a more just and resilient global food system.Organised by
