Why attend

This high-level session will explore synergies between the IUCN World Conservation Congress and the 2026 UN Water Conference—the next pivotal milestone on the global water agenda—positioning water as the vital connecting thread across climate, biodiversity, and the environment.

Session Description

The 2026 UN Water Conference, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal, will convene in the UAE in December 2026, serving as the next pivotal milestone on the global water agenda. Among its six interactive dialogue themes, recently adopted by consensus, is “Water for Planet”—a theme that underscores the essential connections between water, climate change, biodiversity, desertification, the environment, source-to-sea management, resilience, and disaster risk reduction.
In the lead-up to the 2026 Conference, the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi provides a unique opportunity to build momentum toward this milestone by bridging the biodiversity, conservation, and water communities By convening diverse voices, this session will explore solutions that reinforce the interdependence of water, biodiversity, and climate. It will help chart a clear pathway to the 2026 UN Water Conference, ensuring that biodiversity, nature, and ecosystems remain central to global water action.
