Sara Pineda is a Mexican biologist and National Geographic Explorer dedicated to biodiversity conservation through community-based initiatives, collaborative networks, and environmental education in Key Biodiversity Areas. She has contributed to multiple projects in protected areas across Mexico, working with various NGOs on diverse conservation efforts. During her time in the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve, she co-founded Flor del Desierto, a women-led organization that promotes an integrated approach to environmental care based on a body-territory ontology.
She has had the opportunity to collaborate with different environmental networks, most recently serving as Regional Focal Point for North America at WCPA and later representing the WCPA at the IUCN Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). Her work in environmental education has also been wide-ranging, contributing to initiatives at both national and international levels, and she has been recognized as a National Geographic Certified Educator.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Environmental Governance at the University of Freiburg.
