Why attend

The International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade: Initiated by the German government, the International Alliance is now transitioning to the World Organisation for Animal Health for further international consolidation, demonstrating the strength of a multi-stakeholder platform in connecting all One Health fields and actors globally.

Session Description

This press conference will announce the transition of the Secretariat of the International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to the World Organisation of Animal Health (WOAH). Since the initiation of the International Alliance by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) four years ago, announced at the IUCN WCC in Marseille, the Alliance has accomplished impactful work in various countries as well as regarding multiple international policy processes. With the transition, the Alliance will win many new impulses and will continue to act as a leading voice within the sphere of primary pandemic prevention under the One Health framework to continue reducing the health risk of one of the often overlooked drivers of pandemic emergence: wildlife trade.
