Winfred Namwirya
Program Coordinator, ECOTRUST (Uganda)
Winnie Namirya is a farmer and primary school teacher whose strong community mobilization skills opened the door for her to join the Environmental Conservation Trust of Uganda (ECOTRUST). She now serves as a Program Coordinator, leading community-driven natural resource management initiatives.
Starting out as a farmer in the program, Winnie has grown into a leadership role where she guides processes of community co-creation, working with local farmers and experts to design solutions that reflect the community’s social and cultural realities. She is a champion in applying the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) methodology to empower women and men, address gender dynamics, and co-create long-term visions for resilient, climate-smart development.
Her passion lies in helping local communities take ownership of conservation initiatives while improving their livelihoods
