Jim is the National Director of Industry & Government Relations for Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and has been with the organization since 2008. He previously served as DUC’s Director of Federal Government Affairs and DUC’s Manager of Provincial Operations for the Province of Ontario.
In 2022 he was appointed by the Chief Statistician of Canada to serve as the volunteer Chair of Statistics Canada’s National External Advisory Committee on the Census of the Environment.
Jim served in the national Green Budget Coalition (GBC) for more than a decade first as the coalition’s co-chair from 2014 to 2018 and later as a member of the Coalition’s executive management committee. The GBC is an internationally recognized federal budgetary advocacy partnership between twenty-five of Canada’s leading national conservation and environmental organizations.
From 2003-2008, Jim worked at the Canadian Real Estate Association where he was the national Director of External Relations and was a member of the organization’s staff leadership team. Prior to this he was a private management and public affairs consultant for more than six years.
He worked at the House of Commons (Canada) serving as a legislative aide to the vice-Chair oof the permanent Standing Committee on Industry, and later as an aide to the Secretary of State for Western Economic Diversification & Science, Research & Development.
Jim has been a member of several not-for-profit boards, including the Canadian Land Trust Alliance, the Canadian Business and Biodiversity Council and, most recently, as immediate Past-President of the Ottawa Bicycle Club, one of the largest amateur athletic cycling clubs in Canada.
Since 2015, he has volunteered as an independent course study advisor and mentor to students enrolled in the regular stream Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and students enrolled in the joint MBA programs at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University.
Jim holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Queen’s University. He also has an Ontario College Certificate with academic honours from the Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology.
Jim and his wife Vicki reside in Nepean, Ontario.
