Why attend

At the World Conservation Congress, during the Africa Pavilion’s Ocean Day, this high-level panel will convene African leaders and partners to articulate a clear pathway to ocean sector transformation. It will set the stage for a new decade of African ocean leadership, built on regeneration, innovation, and equity.

Session Description

“Do We Dare Dream? Africa’s New Ocean Ambition.

Africa is the world’s ocean continent. Its three great ocean basins, the Atlantic, Indian, and Southern, sustain livelihoods, trade, and biodiversity of global importance. Yet oceans are also deeply political spaces: sites of Africa’s history of displacement and loss, and the frontier of its future as a climate, food, and economic power.

With the Africa Decade of Seas and Oceans (2015–2025) now concluded, the continent faces a historic opportunity to set out the next stage of its ocean journey: one focused not on incremental progress but on bold ambition, implementation and transformation. This means moving decisively from strategy to delivery, embedding oceans at the heart of Africa’s economic and climate agenda.
