Maria Jose Gonzalez-Bernat is a biologist with over 16 years of experience and results in marine, coastal and estuarine ecosystem management and conservation. She is originally from Guatemala but lives in Colombia since 2019.
She has several studies overseas, including her Ph.D. where she evaluated marine and coastal governance and policy for Guatemala. Her research provided a broad, multifaceted and innovative approach, to address the complex conservation challenges the country faces regarding marine conservation. Her Master’s Degree focused on climate change, evaluating the potentially harmful consequences for marine organisms derived from an increasing ocean acidity.
Her work experience includes both government and non-governmental organizations that focused on research and project management, as well as the development of policies for marine conservation and management. She has also led multidisciplinary teams, has a broad experience in fundraising and the ability to implement strategic skills for time and resource management.
Personally, she is kind, proactive and has a deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
