Why attend
Discover how cities can drive ecological regeneration through nature-based solutions, with practical tools, policy insights, and global-local perspectives from IUCN, GEF, and urban leaders. Learn how to integrate biodiversity into urban planning and scale nature-positive action.
Session Description
This session explores how cities can become engines of ecological regeneration by connecting global frameworks with local innovations in nature-based solutions (NbS). Moderator Tony Nello (IUCN) will outline priorities under the GEF-9 Sustainable Cities Integrated Program, including institutional strengthening and urban-rural linkages. Panellists will share practical tools and experiences: Jennifer Rae Pierce (UBHub) introduces new SBTN guidance for cities; Monica Reinoso Paredes presents Quito’s NbS strategies; and Mayor Carlos Mario Gutiérrez Arrubla discusses Colombia’s new law for green, climate-resilient cities. The session highlights how national policy empowers local action, reflecting GEF’s whole-of-government approach. Participants will gain comparative perspectives, actionable insights for urban green spaces, and learn to leverage IUCN’s tools and networks to scale nature-positive urban transformation.Organised by
