Why attend

To learn about the role of Veterinarian in Conservation and Animal Welfare

Session Description

The talk highlights how veterinarians are central to conservation and animal welfare within the One Health framework, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health. It explains that species are going extinct at unprecedented rates due to habitat loss, climate change, disease, and poaching, making conservation a complex challenge. Using Al Ain Zoo as a case study, it shows how zoo veterinarians safeguard biodiversity by providing healthcare to endangered species (like Sand Cat, Dama Gazelle, Addax, Scimitar-Horned Oryx, Arabian Leopard, and Amur Tiger), supporting captive breeding, genetic assessments, and operating a rescue/rehabilitation centre for wild animals.
