Leida BUGLASS

Biography

Leida, a native of the Caribbean, has always been inspired by the vibrant colours and sounds of her homeland—from the chatter of tropical birds and frogs to the songs of humpback whales and the rhythms of salsa and son. Her lifelong passion for both people and nature has guided her career in the sustainable management of natural resources, working in close partnership with local communities to strengthen their connection with the environment and enhance their livelihoods.

She holds an MSc in Landscape & Environmental Planning from Germany and brings over twenty-five years of experience in the intergovernmental and non-profit sectors, addressing sustainable and social development challenges. Her expertise spans land-use planning, civil society strengthening, sustainable livelihoods, gender equity, and the promotion of cultural and ethnic diversity. She has also provided training and empowerment opportunities for grassroots groups through international development and conservation initiatives.

In recent years, Leida’s focus has centred on biodiversity protection and sustainable livelihoods at the marine-terrestrial interface, with specific attention to sustainable tourism, coastal and marine management, and climate change mitigation.
