Why attend
Is technology the answer, or a distraction from deeper-rooted forms of conservation knowledge? As technology advances at an exponential rate, our ability to understand, exploit or conserve our natural world have reached new heights. Discover how we can harness new technologies for good - and what challenges lie ahead.
Session Description
The dynamics facing the conservation world have radically transformed in the Information Age. From simple satellite imagery to the recent surge in artificial intelligence, the world has been transformed by the ICT sector’s unparalleled advances. As conservationists seek new answers to shifting problems, we must ask: is conservation keeping the pace? This session explores multiple lines of action – from on-the-ground conservationists, academia and world-leading ICT sector professionals – at the nexus of tech innovation and conservation. At the forefront, Huawei and IUCN's Tech4Nature initiative will share experiences harnessing AI to recognise jaguar spots and the cries of the world's rarest gibbon; whereas interventions from Esri, WWF and others will showcase the potential for technology to meet our world's conservation needs.
Be prepared to explore the limits of human ingenuity at a critical juncture for our natural world.
