Why attend
Join this conversation on bridging the gap between agriculture and conservation. Through real-world examples and multi-stakeholder dialogue, this session explores how trust-building and shared understanding can drive sustainable food systems. Discover practical solutions and policy insights that support both farmers’ livelihoods and environmental resilience in the face of global crises.
Session Description
The need to enhance the environmental sustainability and resilience of food and agricultural systems is increasingly recognized in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. Yet, many public policies still incentivize unsustainable farming practices that prioritize short-term productivity over long-term ecosystem health. Conversely, policies promoting sustainable approaches often face resistance from farmers concerned about income loss without adequate support.A key driver of these challenges is the lack of trust and shared understanding between agriculture and conservation communities. IUCN’s Common Ground Dialogues bring together farmers, governments, financial institutions, and civil society to foster trust, identify shared priorities, and promote collaboration for joint action. These dialogues generate local solutions and inform inclusive policymaking.
This session will showcase experiences from five pilot countries, share lessons on building trust and collaboration, and highlight IUCN’s unique role in convening cross-sectoral stakeholders to scale up sustainable food system transformation.
