Biography

I’m an Assistant Professor at the College of Environmental Studies and Oceanography and CEO of the @ScapesLab Research Centre at National Dong Hwa University, Hualien, Taiwan. With a PhD in Landscape Conservation and Community Participation, my work brings together integrated landscape–seascape approaches, area-based conservation, the Satoyama Initiative, Indigenous and local knowledge, social–ecological resilience, multi-stakeholder and behavioral approaches, and nexus governance. I apply this knowledge in long-term collaboration and partnership projects with Indigenous and local communities in Taiwan and across the Asia–Pacific region. In the IUCN family, I’m a member of WCPA, an ambassador for PANORAMA Solutions for a Healthy Planet, and serve on the PARKS Journal Editorial Board. In the IPBES family, I was a Fellow in the Nexus Assessment (2022–2024), now contribute to the Task Force on Indigenous and Local Knowledge (IPBES-10 to 13), and am a Coordinating Lead Author for the Second Global Assessment (2025–2028). Most importantly, I share this journey with my four-legged research partner and friend — Dr. Beibei Sun. Together, we believe that harmony with Nature starts in the heart—with gratitude, care, and love for Life in all its forms and sizes. 🌍✨
