Max FONTAINE is advancing a reformist agenda for biodiversity protection and sustainable development as Madagascar’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development. He is driving innovative approaches to conservation, from developing high-end ecotourism in protected areas to introducing green finance tools such as carbon market reforms, biodiversity credits, and “lemur bonds.” Before entering government, he founded the social enterprise Bôndy, leading large-scale reforestation and rural development initiatives. Internationally, he has been recognized as a facilitation champion at COP16 to the Convention on Biological Diversity and as President of the Global Council for SDG 15 at the World Government Summit in Dubai, positioning him as a leading voice for global biodiversity action and a new generation of conservation leadership.
