KARLA RAMIREZ

Biography

I am a Peruvian PhD candidate in the ERC project Conservation Data Justice (CONDJUST) at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. I hold a master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Peru. My experience and interests are focused on nature conservation and the participation of Indigenous Peoples and Rural Communities in conservation governance, mainly in the Peruvian Amazon. I have worked in national and international conservation NGOs, research centers, and in an environmental fund, among other roles. I am co-founder of the Peruvian non-profit association ComunaCiencia, which works on place-based environmental education and participatory research, and a board member of the NGO Neotropical Primate Conservation, dedicated to the conservation of primates and their habitats.
