Session Description
Science-policy interfaces (SPIs) play a critical role in improving policy uptake and addressing the global biodiversity loss and climate crisis. However, the effective translation of knowledge into action and the fostering of sustained science-policy dialogue remains a challenge. This session will focus on strengthening SPIs to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Agreement. It will explore the levers and barriers for engaging diverse knowledge holders—including scientists, traditional knowledge holders, and other experts—in advancing biodiversity and climate action. The session will begin with presentations of European initiatives showcasing their contribution to the integration of knowledge into policy frameworks. This will be followed by a discussion on aligning knowledge contributions with political needs, overcoming barriers to science-policy dialogue, and enhancing capacities for long-term engagement, drawing on the experience from global lessons learned and best practice. The session will conclude with a Q&A session.
