Karen ALLEN

Biography

Karen E. Allen is a cultural anthropologist who has integrative training across disciplines relevant to conservation and sustainability science, in particular, ecological economics and landscape ecology. Her research focuses on the sustainability of social-ecological systems and the interaction between environmental policy and human decision-making. She has a long-running engaged research program in Costa Rica where she works with collaborators to support grassroots conservation. Her recent publications focus on the challenge of understanding complex value systems related to cultural ecosystem services. She is an Associate Professor at Furman University.
