Biography

Tariq Abu Taleb – Executive Director, Wadi for Sustainable Ecosystems Development (Wadi)

Tariq Abu Taleb is the Executive Director of Wadi for Sustainable Ecosystems Development (Wadi), bringing over 25 years of experience in environmental management, conservation, and ecological restoration. His expertise spans both technical and strategic domains, including business development and sustainability initiatives across Jordan and the MENA region. Tariq has been instrumental in advancing Wadi's strategic direction, promoting sustainability through innovative partnerships and active community engagement. Throughout his career, Tariq has been involved in shaping strategic frameworks, overseeing master planning, and leading program implementation for various environmental organizations. His professional endeavors have involved building strategic partnerships, spearheading fundraising initiatives, and contributing to a wide range of regional projects focused on environmental conservation, agriculture, and community development. Tariq’s hands-on experience encompasses all facets of restoration, from conceptual and detailed design to developing and implementing monitoring programs, capacity building, and impact evaluation. His professional contributions also extend to policy development and governance. He has served on numerous national and international committees, including the National Biodiversity Committee and the International Advisory Committee of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI). He has been actively involved in governmental efforts to reform environmental legislation and biodiversity strategies in Jordan. Tariq holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, USA, and a graduate degree in Environmental Hazards and Risk from Brunel University, London, UK.
