Explore aspects and examples of community involvement and engagement to ensure a One Health approach with a focus on enhancing conservation measures in Central Asia
Session Description
One Health is an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems. People interacting with wild, domestic and agricultural animals or living adjacent to wilderness areas or in semi-urban areas are vulnerable to zoonosis risks. As these communities are at high risk and play a significant role in land and wildlife management and ecosystems conservation, they are important stakeholders in the implementation of One Health approach. The podcast will discuss the role of communities and their engagement mechanisms in nature conservation and sustainable land and nature resources management within the One Health approach. On the base of the IKI One Health project in Central Asia, the examples and actions of including communities to strengthening area-based conservation, governance of protected and conserved areas (PCAs), species and zoonotic diseases monitoring, development and implementation of conservation measures will be showcased.Organised by
