Why attend
Vast areas in Amazonia have already reached tipping points or dieback, urgent action to protect & restore at least 80% of Amazonia is needed to prevent cascading tipping points and a regional collapse. Indigenous leaders and scientists will present data and policy recommendations for immediate implementation in the region.
Session Description
How to avert a regional tipping point when various areas have already experienced a dieback in Amazonia? Amazonian Indigenous leaders (present ane remotely from territories) and scientists will present data and policy proposals to avert current tipping points but more so, to prevent a generalized tipping point that has been projected by 2035. Both are the core of IUCN Resolution 129 and a new proposed resolution that will be voted in this Congress. The answer to questions such as: what are the livelihoods of populations in tipping point areas doing? How a tipping point is affecting biodiversity and ecosystems? Can the planet afford loosing Amazonia? this and more questions will be responded in this session.Organised by
