Particular qualifications:
I bring approx. 20 years of experience as a corporate treasurer across a range of industries, including several years as Treasurer for the IUCN Australian Committee. This role deepened my understanding of IUCN’s mission and the importance of strong financial governance in supporting conservation outcomes. I’m a Chartered Treasurer with the UK’s Association of Corporate Treasurers and a Fellow of the Australian Corporate Treasury Association—an honour awarded in recognition of my professional contribution and leadership, particularly in promoting diversity. I founded the Women in Treasury network in Sydney to support women’s’ treasury career development and build professional communities, reflecting my belief in inclusive leadership. Currently, I lead global engagement (across NGOs, FIs and the public sector) at the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), where I use my treasury and financial expertise to support the shift of capital flows towards climate-positive investments. This role has given me insight into the workings of NGOs and the challenges and opportunities of engaging with the financial sector to drive systemic change. My career has consistently focused on applying strong financial stewardship to achieve broader impact. I believe IUCN can benefit from deeper engagement with the financial community, and I bring both the technical capability and the strategic mindset to help make that happen. With a solid background in financial oversight, board-level governance, and cross-sector engagement, I am confident I can support IUCN’s financial sustainability and credibility—ensuring it remains resilient and impactful in the face of growing global challenges.
Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:
My experience closely aligns with the IUCN’s key areas of concern, particularly biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and nature-based solutions. In 2024, I completed a research paper at Cambridge university investigating the impact of mining for critical minerals in Australia on biodiversity. This work directly addresses IUCN’s focus on mitigating threats to biodiversity from extractive industries, while balancing the urgent global need for decarbonisation through renewable energy technologies. In addition, I have actively contributed to species conservation through my collaboration with WWF Australia on native animal reintroduction projects. This hands-on experience supports IUCN’s mission to protect endangered species and restore ecosystems, showcasing practical application of conservation science on the ground. My current role involves working with subject matter experts to raise awareness with stakeholders on the organisation’s standards criteria for sustainable food production, aligning with IUCN’s commitment to promoting sustainable natural resource management that supports both human livelihoods and ecosystem health. My prior role involved assisting corporates with setting sustainability targets including across raw material supply chains and endangered species conservation. Moreover, as co-chair of the Responsible Investment Association Australasia’s (RIAA) external reference group within their nature working group, I have engaged with NGOs and stakeholders to integrate nature-positive approaches into investment frameworks. This experience mirrors IUCN’s strategic priority to mainstream biodiversity considerations across sectors and financial decision-making, driving systemic change.
