Professor Imad Alsyouf holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Linnaeus University, Sweden (2004). He earned both his MSc in Industrial Engineering and his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Jordan. He has more than 35 years of combined experience in academia and industry. He worked in manufacturing for six years, taught at the University of Jordan for two years, and served at Linnaeus University for thirteen years before joining the University of Sharjah (UOS) in 2010. At UOS, he founded the Sustainable Engineering Asset Management (SEAM) research group and led several international research projects with Emirati and Swedish partners in aviation management. He also established and directed the UOS Sustainability Office (2017–2024), where he introduced the innovative concept of Sustainability Circles. This initiative played a key role in UOS achieving the Platinum rating in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, be ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings and being recognized by Advance HE in 2024 as one of only five global universities exemplifying the Whole Institution Approach to sustainability. Professor Alsyouf has also been invited as a panelist at several high-level national and international sustainability forums, including the Digital Universities Arab World 2025 (organized by Times Higher Education in collaboration with the Arab Open University, Oman) and the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2023 (organized by Times Higher Education at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia). He has been listed among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists (Stanford, 2022–2023), has published more than 112 Scopus-indexed papers, and has supervised numerous PhD and master’s students in sustainability and asset management.
