Nirmal SHAH

Biography

Dr. Shah is a Seychellois fisheries, environmental and sustainable development expert with 43 years of experience in public, governmental, private and NGO sectors. He has also worked for IUCN and BirdLife International as well as consulted for international organisations such as the World Bank, UN agencies, Sida and others. He has led projects that have restored islands and saved critically endangered birds from extinction. He is a pioneer of environmental education and the founder of the Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles. He has been a leader in marine science in the region having been a founding Board Member and past President of WIOMSA. Almost 15 years ago, he set up what was then the world's largest-scale coral reef restoration program. Dr. Shah is currently a Councillor of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry and advises private sector on Blue Economy, ESG, etc.
