Why attend

To learn how OECMs, IUCN tools & cross-sector innovations help hit 30*30conservation goal, boost resilience and advance GBF targets.

Session Description

This session explores how Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) and complementary approaches can strengthen ecological connectivity, enhance landscape resilience, and embed nature-positive action across multiple land uses. The emphasis is on opportunity — how we can use the next five years to mobilise, motivate, engage, and support a global transition that fully unlocks the potential of all actors to deliver meaningful biodiversity outcomes. We will explore how IUCN tools — from KBAs and Nature-based Solutions to the Green List Standard — can support this transition, and why we must also remain open to new ideas and innovations from outside the conservation sector. Not every contribution will meet the full OECM threshold, but many will advance other GBF targets, build connectivity, reduce loss, and create nature-positive mosaics that complement protected and conserved areas.
