Session Description
The Arabian Oryx, native to the Arabian Peninsula and celebrated for its cultural significance, beauty, and strength, once faced total eradication due to overhunting, with the species declared extinct in the wild in 1972. Fortunately, visionary conservation measures led to its remarkable recovery. Among the most pivotal was the establishment of a captive breeding program in Abu Dhabi in 1968 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE. This session will highlight the species’ recovery journey and ongoing regional efforts to ensure the long-term survival of this iconic desert antelope.Organised by
