Why attend

This session marks the official launch of two transboundary biological corridors in Europe and Latin America. It offers a unique opportunity to explore how international cooperation and Nature-based Solutions enhance ecological connectivity, safeguard emblematic species, and generate tangible benefits for local communities and sustainable development.

Session Description

“Habitats across Borders” presents the official launch of two landmark initiatives: the Spanish - Portuguese Biological Corridor (Spain–Portugal) and the Iguazú Trinational Biological Corridor (Argentina–Brazil–Paraguay). Both regions are globally significant biodiversity hotspots, home to emblematic species such as the Iberian lynx, jaguar, black stork, and harpy eagle. The session will highlight the main challenges faced by these territories—landscape fragmentation, climate change, and human pressures—while showcasing how cross-border cooperation, ecosystem restoration, sustainable ecotourism, and bioeconomy strategies provide viable solutions for conservation and sustainable development. It will emphasize the critical role of rural communities and local stakeholders in ensuring resilience and long-term sustainability. By sharing achievements, partnerships, and next steps, this event aims to inspire policymakers, researchers, and practitioners, offering transferable lessons for other regions seeking to connect nature conservation with human well-being.
