Why attend

Discover how Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas advance reconciliation by centering Indigenous rights, knowledge, and governance, ensuring conservation efforts achieve ecological integrity, cultural continuity, and resilient, lasting outcomes for both communities and ecosystems.

Session Description

This session explores how reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples can be advanced through Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs). By centring Indigenous rights, knowledge systems, and governance, IPCAs represent an approach to land and water stewardship that goes beyond conservation as usual. Participants will learn how Indigenous-led planning and decision-making effortlessly lead to ecological integrity while upholding cultural values, creating actions toward equality and resilience. The discussion highlights why ensuring Indigenous voices are central to every stage of conservation, from planning to implementation, is essential to achieving meaningful, lasting outcomes for both communities and ecosystems.
