UNCCD and CMS are launching a Global Land Outlook Thematic Report on Ecological Connectivity and Land Restoration. The report highlights how sustainably managing landscapes and restoring degraded land can reconnect fragmented ecosystems ("restore to connect"), and that enhancing connectivity can increase landscapes' resilience to environmental stressors ("connect to restore").

Description de la séance

Land degradation, desertification and fragmentation of ecosystems are accelerating globally, threatening biodiversity, ecosystem services and human well-being. Ecological connectivity— the ability of species, energy and processes to move freely across landscapes and seascapes— is a critical foundation for resilience in the face of degradation, climate change, biodiversity loss and food insecurity. With the upcoming IPBES Thematic Assessment on Ecological Connectivity and the global urgency to achieve land restoration targets under UNCCD and ecological connectivity goals under the CMS, this high-level event aims to bring science, policy and practice together to chart actionable pathways for the future. It will highlight policy and implementation synergies across conventions, strengthen partnerships, and share success stories from around the world.
