Stewart MAGINNIS

Biographie

Stewart Maginnis travaille dans le domaine du développement durable et de la conservation de la biodiversité depuis plus de 35 ans. Il a vécu de longues périodes en Tanzanie, au Soudan, au Ghana et au Costa Rica, où il a mené des travaux de terrain en matière de conservation. Il a dirigé le développement et la promotion de la « restauration des paysages forestiers » (RPF) – l’une des premières Solutions fondées sur la Nature conçues spécifiquement à cet effet – à laquelle plus de 60 pays ont adhéré, engageant plus de 210 millions d’hectares dans le cadre du Défi de Bonn.

Au cours des 12 dernières années, lui et son équipe à l’UICN ont travaillé à la définition et à la promotion du concept de Solutions fondées sur la Nature, ainsi qu’à son application dans les domaines du changement climatique, de la sécurité alimentaire et hydrique, et de la réduction des risques de catastrophes. Il occupe actuellement le poste de Directeur général adjoint de l’UICN, avec la responsabilité du programme de travail de l’organisation.

Stewart a fait ses études à l’Université d’Oxford et à la Queen’s University de Belfast.
