Successful conservation stories are embedded in sound scientific knowledge and long-term and sustainable financing options. The human element should be part of the equation, ensuring that livelihood options are prioritized. Come engage in a conversation that will highlight holistic ecosystem management approaches, the needed science and financing models being used.
Description de la séance
Coastal and marine ecosystems - mangroves, seagrasses and coral reefs, are at the center of thriving biodiversity, climate resilience and socio-economic wellbeing. As powerful Nature-based Solutions, they sustain livelihoods and protect communities, while serving to mitigate climate change. Yet, they are disappearing at alarming rates, due to human-driven pressures. Existing management and restoration practices are often fragmented, ecosystem-specific, and tied to short-term funding, limiting their impact and long-term sustainability. A paradigm shift is needed toward holistic management, sustainable financing and livelihood centered solutions.Encouragingly, momentum is growing across Africa to establish a harmonized blue carbon approach, aligning national initiatives with regional ambitions to unlock scalable, durable financing. This session will focus on best practices in conservation, exploring opportunities, such as, the Mangrove and Seagrass Breakthroughs and will highlight innovative financing models for Coral reef conservation, and the critical science needed to drive sustainable financing for coastal and marine ecosystems.
