The purpose of this side event is to share learnings and lessons from the project implementation thus far and to highlight how the countries seek to elevate their goals and aspirations on eliminating plastics pollution through this project.
Description de la séance
Target 7 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity framework highlights the need to “reduce pollution risks and the negative impact of pollution from all sources by 2030 to levels that are not harmful to biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, considering cumulative effects, including [… the prevention, reduction] and working towards eliminating plastics pollution”. IUCN through its Oceania Regional Office (ORO) is implementing a project targeting 4 Pacific Island Countries, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu, focusing on Solutions to Reduce Plastic Pollution Affecting Marine Biodiversity and Sensitive Coastal Ecosystems in the Pacific. The Project is aligned with the blueprint framework to address the impact of plastic pollution on marine biodiversity and coastal ecosystems and it is funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea. It builds on a previous project IUCN Plastics Waste Free Islands (PWFI) that was also delivered through ORO, and seeks to leverage the learning and experiences developed.Organised by
